Active substance
Acepromazine maleate.
Indications
- Tranquiliser for handling nervous animals and/or animals in stressful situations (clinical examinations, diagnostic tests, travel sickness, etc.).
- Premedication prior to anaesthesia, enabling doses of analgesics and general anaesthetic to be reduced and counteracting the emetic effect of opiates.
- Post-operative, facilitates gentle awakening.
Dosage and route of administration
Dogs:
Tranquilisation not followed by anaesthesia: 0.2 – 0.4 ml/10 kg b.w. IM.
Premedication for anaesthesia: 0.02 – 0.1 ml/10 kg b.w. IM.
Post-operative sedation: 0.02 – 0.1 ml/10 kg b.w. IV.
Cats:
Tranquilisation not followed by anaesthesia: 0.02 – 0.04 ml/kg b.w. IM.
Premedication for anaesthesia: 0.01 – 0.02 ml/kg b.w. IM.
Post-operative sedation: 0.002 – 0.01 ml/kg b.w. IV.
When used for pre-anaesthesia purposes or to enhance effect of general anaesthetic, dose of anaesthetic can be reduced by 30-50%.
Use during gestation or lactation
Do not use during last term of gestation.
