Oxytetracycline (oxytetracycline dihydrate).
Indications
For the following target species reported, treatment of the following infections caused by bacterial strains sensitive to oxytetracycline:
Cattle:
- Respiratory infections caused by Histophilus somni, Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida and Mycoplasma bovis.
- Metritis caused by Arcanobacterium pyogenes.
- Treatment of navel/joint infections caused by Dichelobacter nodosus, Fusobacterium necrophorum and Prevotella melaninogenicus.
Sheep:
- Respiratory infections caused by Mannheimia haemolytica and Pasteurella multocida.
- Genital infections caused by Arcanobacterium pyogenes, Chlamydophila spp and Dermatophilus congolensis.
- Navel/joint infections caused by Dichelobacter nodosus, Fusobacterium necrophorum and Prevotella melaninogenicus
Pigs:
- Respiratory infections caused by strains of Bordetella bronchiseptica and Pasteurella.
- Erysipelas caused by strains of Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae.
- Atrophic rhinitis caused by strains of Bordetella bronchiseptica and Pasteurella multocida.
Other infections:
- Mastitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae and Escherichia coli.
- Enzootic abortus caused by Chlamydia abortus and Chlamydia psittaci.
- Genital infections and poliartritis caused by Chlamydia abortus and Mycoplasma spp.
Dosage and administration route
The general recommended dosage for a prolonged duration of activity of 5 to 6 days is a single deep IM injection of 30 mg oxytetracycline/ kg bodyweight (equivalent to 1ml of the veterinary medicinal product/10 kg of bodyweight).
Maximum recommended dose at one site:
Cattle: 15 ml
Sheep: 5 ml
Pigs: 10 ml
Piglets: 1 day: 0.2ml / 7 days: 0.3 ml / 14 days: 0.4 ml / 21 days: 0.5 ml / Over 21 days: 1ml/10 kg
Withdrawal periods
Cattle. Meat and offal: 35 days. Milk: 7 days.
Sheep. Meat and offal: 35 days. Milk: 9 days.
Pigs: Meat and offal: 28 days
